5 reasons to choose a shower toilet

For many years, bidets and bidet showers have been common place in Asia, the Middle East, South America and parts of Europe, having been recognised for their hygienic benefits.

In 1975 it became law in Italy and Portugal that each household must have at least one bidet, and in some parts of South America, up to 90% of homes have one.

The advancement of technology and design has led to the modern day bidet solution: the shower toilet. Also known as bidet toilets or washlets, they integrate a water jet within the toilet, combining the functions of a toilet and bidet into one. Here we share five reasons why we think shower toilets will become a future staple in our households.

1. Better personal hygiene
Would you clean your body with paper? What about your dirty dishes? There’s no doubt that water is an essential part of any cleaning ritual, so why is it different when going to the toilet? Washing with water is a much more effective and long-lasting way of cleaning, and removes more germs and bacteria than paper.

2. The ultimate in comfort
Using water is a much more gentle and soothing way of cleaning after using the toilet and the feeling of freshness and cleanliness is incomparable to when using paper. Those with skin irritations will find even more comfort in washing with water, as toilet paper often aggravates itches. Some shower toilets, such as our V-Care, include additional comfort-enhancing functionality such as adjustable water temperature, heated seat and odour purification for an experience that will leave you feeling as Zen as if you’d just had a long, hot shower.

3. A sustainable option
Shower toilets significantly reduce the amount of toilet paper needed, which is better for the environment and for your pocket. Did you know that a single roll of toilet paper uses 37 gallons of water to manufacture? Or that 27,000 trees are flushed down the drain every day? On average, toilet paper usage is reduced by 75% when using a bidet. Some shower toilets, such as our V-Care Comfort model, offer a completely paperless solution, thanks to the washing and drying features. If you’re looking to make some eco-friendly changes to your bathroom, switching from washing with paper to water is one of the most effective changes to make.

4. Save space in your bathroom
The most prevalent argument in the UK for not having a bidet is the lack of space. But what if it didn’t need to take up any more space than your current toilet? The space that you do save by installing a shower toilet can also be used for additional storage, plants or decoration, or even just kept clear to maximise the feeling of openness. Additionally, all of our shower toilets are wall-hung, creating the illusion of more space thanks to the concealed fittings. Our Aquacare shower toilets can also be installed easily in place of your existing toilet, as they don’t require an electrical connection.

5. Prevent plumbing problems
Using toilet paper can sometimes lead to clogged pipes, which can be can be costly and stressful to fix. Shower toilets minimise this risk due to the reduced need for toilet paper, giving you peace of mind.
